The Day When There Was No Yesterday
I cannot think of a day in my life when there wasn't a yesterday. Except perhaps in my first day of life, which of course is impossible to retrieve this side of heaven. Perry Marshall passed me this thought in his fascinating notes on the begining of the universe. It seems Albert Einstein affirmed that the universe has a begining. Marshall said the universe has a pattern and intelligent design behind it. Well, it looks like the whole debate about the existence of God . It is, to Marshall, not just a theological issue, but a scientific one. Go to his website (CelestialMechanic.com) and I gurantee you will be keen to get more on his thoughts if you are a science or physics lover. He talks about the difference between pattern and design, and showed that these two factors of the universe are linked by a discernible language, just as there is a pattern and design in our DNA code.
The thrust of this matter is that the universe, and therefore life, is brought into being by an intelligent Creator.
Now this is akin to music as a language with a pattern and design. Brings to mind Sister Maria of the "Sound of Music" - "Doe a deer, a female deer...." And like she puts it, "Nothing come from nothing, nothing ever could.."
You see, it's been this way since we read the Book of Genesis. Our God is real. Readers' Digest (the best-selling magazine) once ran an article on some scientific enquiry into the para phenomenal, saying that scientists have been climbing every mountain of such PP cases to collect "factual data", and the magazine concluded with this poignant remark: there is a suspicion that when the highest skeptical peak has been surmounted, sitting right atop is a theist who says to the stunned climber, "I told you so."

In God's Name- The Korean Christian Hostage Saga.
CBS reports that the Taliban militants have promised to release the remaining Korean hostages within three days. While we rejoice that they are okay and safe, and families and church will welcome them back in a sense of relief and thanksgiving, the glaring question remains- How can the Afghans ever hear the Good News of a loving God if they keep scaring away well-meaning mission gestures?
As I understand the situation, two months ago some 20 Korean Christians went into Taliban territory reportedly to help in some relief work. Now we know what is the reason for doing relief work among missionaries. Suffice to say it is to share the Good News. I mean there is the Great Commission. The above photo, taken before the trip, was one of "We're on a mission to share the joy of the Good News". But we know that Taliban militants have their version of the good news - Hostage = Exchange (fellow militants+kind). Their theology of religious mission may not always be shared by all Muslims, but this much is clear to them, salvation and redemption of the brethren takes priority over the lives of infidels. Hostage-taking and exchange for your brethren is therefore noble. Theologically sound?
Take this thought to the New Testament - Jesus Christ tells his disciples to love their enemies, do good to those who hate you. The Good Samaritan in Luke's gospel was even willing to help a Jew who was probably attacked by his own people and shunned by his religious leaders.
I believe when the Korean Christians left the comfort of their homes and church family to venture into dangerous Afghan territory, they were carrying out this message of love. Depending on their faith, each of the hostages would respond differently under such severe duress. Nevertheless, the spirit of Christian love and message is conveyed. You come to me with harmful intentions in the name of God. I, in the same name of God come to you to say that He loves you even though you riddle me with bullets and take my life, and wrest me away from my wife, my children, and friends.
How can hurting and killing people to get your way ever honor and please a loving God. I know gangsters kill in the name of their god, but it was for their own interests.
By continuing to murder and pose aggression to well-meaning missions, the Taliban militants, and Afghans for the matter are just depriving themselves of the truly good news that God is really a loving God who has sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to die them, that they may have the same Spirit as God - that of love.
We pray that the Taliban hearts can soften at the respond shown by their captives, and that a breakthrough be made for real salvation of souls there, not just exchange of hostages. TPII GraceHaven.

KAKA's KAKIS WIN
When Kaka heard the final whistle to Milan's Champion League victory, he sank to his knees and thanked God in prayer. But not before he took off his jersey to show off his faith in Jesus to the world. I gasp at his willingness to testify to his faith in Jesus among his team mates, his opposition and to the 70 plus thousand people in the statdium in Athens and millions around the world. I have admired Kaka for his skills that belied his boyish personality. But as he played last night I was glad to have caught a glimpse of that joy in playing soccer at the highest level at this.
Which goes to show his right attitude in the steps of what Paul the apostle says in the Bible that whatever we do, we do it in the glory of God. It is debatable if Adam and Eve had soccer in Eden. I hazard a guess that it could have been a golf-like game using tree branches to hit Buah Dukus into rabbit holes all over the vast fairways and greens. But hey, who is to know.
It is also difficult to say if God is into game, but I have heard of a South Korean top soccer team called "Hallelujah" comprising of only "born again" believers. And every time their matches are carried live on radio or TV, Koreans keep hearing "Hallelujah", "Hallelujah", "HHHHALELUJAHHHH!" from the commentators shouting out the team's moves, and thus God's praises are declared and repeated live. Hah, what a way to bring people's attention to the truth of God - that He is after all the Creative Genius that enables us to enjoy sporting activities, whether it be soccer like Kaka and his teamate Dida, the Milan goalie, or basketball, or golf.
Incidentally, Kaka's flashing his faith to the people in Athens, ironically, brings to mind that the Apostle Paul himself testified of Christ to the Athenians probably around the very place in the first century. Paul enagaged the minds of the people, Kaka exhibited physically skills in his chosen game, but they both testify to the One that gave us the ability to be creative. What wonderful creatures of God we are. I hope Liverpool turn their beer shirts into mineral water, and perhaps they will have a miraculous win (sorry no de ja vu, this time). God Bless, Kenson TPII.

Face-Off
FACE OFF - This is CBS news photo of Cho Seung-Hui, who before yesterday was another college student at Virginia Tech, USA. Look at him - someone you will see as similar to thousands of others at College Campus, maybe playing badminton as many Koreans do, or baseball. But this seemingly ordinary looking student brought along a couple of handguns yesterday afternoon to classes. The News Network reported that he was believdd to have shot to death two students in the dorms before entering a class and shot the students there. At the last count there were 32 dead and about 20 injured by his gunfire. This has been said to be the worst school shooting incident in US history. No one has yet determined what made a young man who is supposed to be learning English and have a decent living after having learned enough in a fine college, commit such an evil deed. Where are the care givers/teachers/educators in the college? How many students have a face that speaks well just like the next guy, but whose minds have been so twisted that killing is plausible? Isn't true that our society, whether in the US or elsewhere needs to understand the mindset of the young and provide enough character-building training before they blow up our institutions.
Take off the face of Cho and any similar kind of troubled college kid and there may be minds that are likened to time bombs that need defusing. Better still - realize there is the real need to strengthen our training up our children to live godly lives - that means allowing God and His Word to prevail in our schools and institutions of higher learning. If we leave out God in our lives, there is no loonger any moral standards to teach our children because goodness becomes subjective and even destructive. Cho is also a victim. He obviously knew no better inspite of his intellectual abilities. People still think that training the intellect is enough, and not the soul. Cho proves otherwise. TPII.
